Handcrafted Copper Domes with Czech Disc Beads on Copper Chain Necklace and Earrings Set
This artsy necklace is designed with handcrafted and embossed 19mm warm colored Copper Domes. Within each dome is a 10mm black and copper colored Czech disc bead with a cross carved in the bead. I've added additional interest by hanging on each side of the copper domes scrolled wirework dangles. All are hung on solid copper chain and measures 16" long The matching dangle earrings are also handcrafted and hung on rose gold-filled handcrafted wires. Gold filled ear wires will not harm your ears. They are thickly, 20%, coated with gold and will last a lifetime. The earrings measure 2 5/8" from the top of the ear wire. This lovely set is quite interesting and will go with any outfit, dressed up or down. The last picture is the back of the set.
COPPER is a reddish gold metal that patina to a warm brown. The oldest known metal, it was associated with the Greek goddess Aphrodite and her Roman counterpart, Venus. The discovery of copper dates from prehistoric times. There are reports of copper beads dating back to 9000BC found in Iraq. Methods for refining copper from its ores were discovered around 5000BC and a 1000 or so years later it was being used in pottery in North Africa
Keeping copper clean and dry, removing any oil or perspiration helps prevent oxidation. Although it can tarnish over time, copper resists tarnish better than many other jewelry metals (including sterling which turns black). When it does oxidize it takes on a soft brown, antiqued color as it darkens, a much sought after "vintage" look in jewelry. The tarnish on copper can be easily removed if you prefer a bright look. If you do prefer the bright look, keep your copper piece in an air tight bag or jewelry box to prevent tarnish when not wearing. In addition, Copper jewelry is often considered to have healing properties.
CZECH GLASS BEADS are known over the world for exemplary craftsmanship, vivid color and bead-to-bead consistency. From fire-polished faceted shapes to smooth round druks and more. Glass making in the Czech Republic is an age old cottage industry. These glass beads are still made in small quantities by hand. I purchased these great beads from Slovakia.
